Resurrection Day— it’s an important day in our household. As my husband says, “Resurrection is the Truth that fuels our fire.” It changes everything. Jesus makes all things new. Do you want to be made new?
The Lord you seek is not dead. He is living.
“A dead Christ I must do everything for; a living Christ does everything for me.” - Andrew Murray
“Why do you search for the living among the dead?”
Are you seeking life among things that are dead?
Are you seeking fulfillment in things? Identity in position? Satisfaction in people? Joy in circumstance?
“Why do you search for the living among the dead?”
If we peel back our cravings to see the deeper hunger beneath, we find that everything good in the world, all of our heart’s deepest longings, are born from Him and are signs to Him. And He lives. He overcame. All will be well. Let this living Lord have entry, give Him full access. He will come in, and He will make everything new.
Here’s a list of songs our family has been enjoying today. There are so many good ones, these are just a few of what we’ve leaned into. Most of these we have personal connection to. I made a playlist on Spotify if you’d like to listen in.
Wonderful, Merciful Savior by Selah (2001) - This whole album (Press On) was a lifeline for me in my college days. This band has since changed, and their sound is different now, but this album moves my heart and reminds me of sweet, intimate moments with Jesus I had when I was younger.
Both Alive by
(2021) - The Morykons are close family friends, so we watched many of these songs be forged in the fires of life—lived well and honest. This isn’t my favorite of his (check out his latest, Well Within Your Grace with Molly Skaggs), but it’s worth a listen in this season. His lyrics are poetry. He is a deep well, yet one of the humblest people I know.Death in His Grave - Live by
(2015) - We’re partial to the live version because we were in the room. Can’t really say enough about JMM. He’s Carolina through and through, and even though he’s a global name, he’s put down roots here. He gave us an interview for our very first issue of magazine. I think he’s a masterful songwriter, and his voice might be one of my favorites.Creed by Rich Mullins (1993) - Can you get more classic? I had friends in college who made a mixed tape (perhaps we should have a moment of silence in remembrance of those now-extinct unicorns…) of alternating songs between Rich Mullins and U2. They knew every song by heart and belted them out on roadtrips. Here’s looking at you,
. This song is essential.A New Thing by
(2023) - This version is excellent, but I’m partial to the raw, unpolished one with just his voice and guitar (you can find it on Soundcloud). For years, he sang his songs to just our small group and community. It was a gift that ministered powerfully to us, so I’m so glad it’s now available to others. This song helped carry our family through a time of darkness and pain. Andrew partnered with us to facilitate a multi-hour prayer room with his gift of worship, and I watched as he sang his heart out whether the room had many or almost none…he’s the real deal.Is He Worthy? by
(2018) - I absolutely love this song. We call it “the song” in our family because of how much it stirs us. We love all things Andrew Peterson—his music, his books, his Christ-centered community for creatives called . I read the entire Wingfeather Saga to my teenagers when they were younger and teared up at multiple points. Our friend (and fellow York County native!) has done some of the artwork for Andrew’s books and albums.Easter Song by Keith Green - no explanation necessary. It’s Keith Green!
Rich still plays on the radio.
Thanks for this Lana. Very beautifully written. And I’m very honored to be on this list with some incredible song writers.
