He Contains Multitudes
Wrote this a few years ago. Reminded of it today. “Oh that we could see Him for how He really is!
He is the Ancient of Days, all magnificent with eyes of fire and love. His voice roars like waves of the sea, His garment is white shining brilliance, it flows down and dances on the earth. Its hem brushes over and stirs the waters. It brushes over and stirs my heart. His face is the sun shining in full strength. His mouth is a sword, so sharp that its deep pierce is swift and precise and merciful. Though it stings you thank Him for it; it is healing and true.
This is Jesus. “He contains multitudes” Matt mentioned to me yesterday. This fierce mighty one is the one who says, “Come to Me all who labor and are heavy-laden.” Isn’t that me? Isn’t that you? Then He says, “I will give you rest, for I am gentle and lowly in heart.” This all-powerful one who the very sight of His holiness, purity, and strength would make us fall to our knees says to us that He is gentle and lowly in heart. He loves. He has compassion. He yearns for us to receive what He offers. Even as He could strike down an enemy with one word.
Then He says, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” We can share life with Him and He does all the heavy lifting. With Him the hard can feel mild. With Him the burden can feel light. We might pass through the waters, through the fires, through the trials, but with Him we are safe and we are not worn out.
This Jesus is my portion. “His eyes are on fire and I can’t look away.””
